Hi Helen,
Did anyone ever ask Mark Stebbins brother, Mike, whether or not he knew John Hastings…or any of the other Hastings family members? How about any of the other pedophiles (Busch, Sloan, Gunnels, Harold Clayton Anderson, Shaffer, etc.)? I wonder if pictures of these guys back in the day would help jog his memory? He doesn’t seem like the type of person who spends a lot of time on the internet so he may not have seen your website or newspaper articles of these stories, etc..Matt Note: I asked Mike and he does not recall any of them by name, nor from his working at the Model shop,he has tried to view them from his phone internet-but it keeps timing out---In order for this to be done properly-It is up to the police to make up a Gallery of photos with out names and show this to the family members-however over the 37 years, the cops have not found the time to have Interviews with the family--When I meet with the group of retired cops at the end of Aug. I hope that they will do this or may have some other Ideas, where they will get the family input-as you know -none of the families were ever asked who they thought could have been involved in these serial killings-and they do have information that they feel is important-so we will see-I have thought about sending out a full packet of photo -with out names to each family member and then include the contact numbers of the police dept. that they should contact if they recognize any of the photos-But would that be proper? It may just be the only way this will get done,as right now it appears that they are just watching the latest DNA hairs, hoping one of them will hatch a suspect...

My Comment To another Bias article in the Detroit Free Press- ***Rochelle Riley, every time I read one of your stories,I just shake my head, you asked what do you have to do so George Zimmerman and others get it? Well you could quit blaming white people and maybe work at changing some of these stats-"Blacks commit more violent crime against whites than against other blacks." Forty-five percent of the victims of violent crime by blacks are white folks, 43 percent are black, 10 percent are Hispanic.
Blacks are seven times as likely as people of other races to commit murder, eight times more likely to commit robbery and three times more likely to use a gun in a crime.
"Blacks are an estimated 39 times more likely to commit violent crime against a white person than vice versa, and 136 times more likely to commit robbery." (If decent black folks have trouble hailing a cab, and they do, these numbers may help explain it.)
Black-on-white rape is 115 times more common than the reverse. You would think a good reporter would include these statistic in her articles. Helen Dagner Reply · Like · Follow Post · 8 minutes ago

I interviewed a lot of people about William Shaffer from the paper boy to his lawn care boy---I have to re read those notes before I post them, however this stuck out to me--Shaffer had a large size electric train that was always set up in his basement and he shopped at The Model Hobby Shop on 9mile--as did John, who built models of homes to scale...

In 2007---For the first time in a 30-year investigation, a civil lawsuit has been filed by the family of a child who died at the hands of who police call the Oakland County Child Killer. The wrongful death lawsuit names Ted Lamborgine, 65, as one of the group who collectively raped and murdered several children in the '70s and '80s. ?We believe that it was probably more likely than not, that it was a group of people that worked together and they are collectively are known as The Oakland County Child Killer.? Said Victim Mark Stebbins?s attorney Elizabeth Harvard. The family of Mark Stebbins, one of the children slain, filed the lawsuit against Lamborgine. "The police have the burden of proof beyond a reasonable doubt. In a civil lawsuit, we don't have that same burden. Ours is more likely than not," said David Brinkley. "Under the circumstances, we believe we can utilize techniques a civil lawsuit permits and we believe we could perhaps push the investigation a little further." Brinkley said the evidence includes statements made in a separate child molestation case against Lamborgine, where a boy claims he was sexually molested and nearly suffocated to death in Royal Oak. Lamborgine was charged last year with molesting six children in the Cass Corridor in the 70s and 80s. Police said he would lure boys in with food, soda and drugs for the purpose of sexually assaulting them. The new suit will give attorneys new subpoena powers against Lamborgine and others that may have information about the case. The Stebbins family is not seeking monetary damages. They said they are only filing the lawsuit to help in the investigation to get everyone responsible in jail. He didn?t say ?Not me, I didn?t do that.? He said, ?God will forgive me.? Not me, I won?t,?? said Stebbins? David Binkley. The family of Timothy King is also expected to join in on the lawsuit. Prosecutors said Lamborgine and Richard Lawson, who is already serving a life sentence for murder were part of a sex ring.

Mike will never forget how he found out his brother was dead--He had been skipping school since mark was abducted, but he decied he should go on the 19th which was a thrusday--as he didn't want his Mom to find out--he wasn't in class very long .when a knock came on the door and someone said- Stebbins go to the principals office----at the time he thought it was because they were going to talk to him about his skipping school..so he immediately went to the principals office knocked on the door and before he even reached the chair to sit down, the principal said-your to wait here until the police arrive, they have found a boy over on 10th and they want to talk to you about it,---he said he kept asking is my brother dead? And the principal kept saying ,lets wait until the police get here and see what they want to say to you...he screamed you know so you tell me !!! I want to know right now,so the Principal told him,yes Mark is gone.. Mike said he was just numb,it didn't seem real,he did not want to believe it....he hoped it wasn't true, but when the police walked into the office...he knew it was, just by the look on their faces....

Another Correction----The family's suffering did not end with the funeral. After the murder Mark's embittered brother Michael, now 17, stopped studying, began to just hang out and got into some bad habits that he regrets to this day . His mother, too distraught to work, had come to rely on welfare and, occasionally, Valium. She campaigns tirelessly to warn parents of the dangers confronting their children, but her exertions did not ease her grief. "Every time a child has been killed since Mark," she said, "it happens to me all over. I still think about it every day."

Note : The changes in the first Prg. of the Stebbins thread-Mark was not going to the Hobby store-he wanted a quarter to buy ice cream---(Correction reads)----When Mike Stebbins and his brother Mark jumped in the car with his Mom and her boyfriend to ride up to the American Legion Hall on Sunday,February 15th,they were laughing and giggling and teasing each other and looking forward to having a lot of fun, eating a lot of snacks and downing a lot of soda pop,and playing some pool and listing to their favorite tunes on the Jude Box......They had been there for a while, and Mark asked his Mom for some money to stop at the, store right next to the ALH he wanted a quarter to buy an ice cream cone to eat on the way home,Mike knew his mother didn't have any money that day so Mom said I don't think so today,as you have already had your allowance, Mark was ok with that, then he asked if he could walk home to watch his favorite show on TV ( The Bill Kennedy show )....His Mom Ruth said Ok,but I want you to go right home. Mike said I will walk with you if you want me to.Mark turned a round with a big smile and laugh and said, no I can do this,( after all he was 12 years old! )you stay and finish your game of pool,I will see you at home~Mike last saw his Brother at approximately 12:25 p.m. at The American Legion Hall at 9 mile and Livernois in Ferndale. Note: If you have already started to read the Mike-Mark Stebbins postings, and I see a lot of you have-be sure to go back over it often as much of the Information will be changing-as we are correcting all the old -wrong Info-and the only way to do that is to post what I have and then go from there-I have no place left to store anything-so I'm using the site to do that-and yes-it is getting to be a mess and hard to find anything -unless you take the time to really look-However I am more interested in getting the true facts out there-when I accomplish that -then I can start on making the site -user friendly ---Thanks for understanding--

An anguished mother warns other parents
A likable 12-year-old whose parents had separated when he was 5, Mark Stebbins wanted to be a Marine when he grew up. On Feb. 15, 1976 he went to a pool tournament, then started on the three-block walk to his home. When he hadn't shown up 10 hours later, his mother, Ruth, called police. "We haven't had any kidnappings in Ferndale in 10 years," officers told her reassuringly, but all that night she lay awake. "I kept hearing noises and thinking it was Mark," she recalls, "and the next few days I set three places at the table in the hope that he'd come home."
On the fourth day police found Mark's body in a parking lot two and a half miles from his home. Later, on the same spot, they found a commemorative card that had been given to visitors at the funeral home. "I didn't recognize everyone who came," says Mrs. Stebbins, 41. "I might even have shaken hands with the killer."
The family's suffering did not end with the funeral. "Every time a child has been killed since Mark," she says, "it happens to me all over. I still think about it every day."

Abducted: Sunday, Feb. 15, 1976. (Vicinity of 9 mile and Woodward) Ferndale
Found: Thursday, Feb. 19, 1976. (Vicinity of 10 mile and Greenfield) Southfield
Mark last saw his Mother and Brother Mike at approximately 12:25 p.m. at The American Legion Hall at 9 mile and Livernois in Ferndale. According to Ruth Stebbins on the radio tapes, Mark had asked her for money and she said no because he already had his allowance. Per Ruth, he didn’t seem mad, he just said okay and that he was going home to watch a movie. At 7:15 Ruth called home and Mark was not there. When she got home just before 9:00 p.m. Mark was still not home. She said she would wait one more hour and then call the police. Police scoured the neighborhood, abandoned buildings were searched, there was no sign of Mark
Mark was found on Thursday, Feb. 19th behind a plaza at 10 mile and Greenfield. The coroner concluded his wrists had been bound, he had been strangled, struck in the head, and had been sexually assaulted.

First thing I said To Mike Stebbins "I cannot even imagine how to process the knock on the door opening it to find out your brother is dead How does the brain take that kind of attack? Mike said, you do not even realize that you are completely numb- Does time make it easier to handle? Well time helps you to be able to cope more, but you never forget...
