Royal Oak— Police are investigating the murder of an 80-year-old woman whose body was discovered Sunday night.
According to the Royal Oak Police Department, officers were called to a home in the 2900 block of Trafford to check on the welfare of an elderly woman.
When they arrived at the home — in an area three blocks north of Webster and east of Woodward — they discovered that a homicide had taken place.
According to police, no suspects are in custody and the incident is under investigation. Police are asking that anyone with information about the incident call them at (248) 246-3500.
According to city-data.com, Royal Oak recorded a single homicide in years 2000, 2004, 2005 and 2010.
In 2010, Royal Oak averaged 99.9 violent crimes per 100,000 population, well below the national average of 222.7.
