OCCK~DISCUSSION
ABOUT MARK~FIRST VICTIM~OCCK
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The radio program tells listeners that Mark left the Ferndale Hall to go home and watch movies. I wonder if his mother could or if she ever did state what route he would have taken. Does anyone know if that was ever put out to the public? I live in the area here and I could check on the viability of the route.
We also need to find out what "John" told Helen Dagner about where he picked Mark up and see if the two match. Does anyone know if Mark's mother is still alive....

From what I understand Ruth Stebbins passed away around 1999.
Mark would have had to cross Woodward Ave. to make it home, therefore he would have probably crossed at 9 mile Rd.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
HI~SAY YOU SOUND LIKE YOU KNOW THAT AREA WELL.....CAN YOU TELL ME WERE THE RAILROAD TRACKS WERE LOCATED....THAT WOULD OF BEEN ON MARKS WAY HOME?

Helen, the railroad tracks were not on Mark's way home. Mark did live between the RR tracks and Woodward, but the American Legion Hall is West of Woodward and the RR tracks are on the East side of Woodward.
I would say the RR tracks are about 3/4 to a mile away from the American Legion hall.

Hmmm THANKS~I WILL NEED TO GO BACK OVER MY NOTES~~BUT I'M SURE JOHN SAID BY THE RAILROAD TRACKS....BUT WOULD MARK WALK THAT FAR...IN THAT DIRECTION?

I don't know what he collected, but I think I read one of your posts that said he wanted to go to the hobby shop and Ruth Stebbins mentions in the tape that Mark asked for money but she had already given him his allowance.

Helen, {THIS IS REPOSTED FROM SITE READERS E-MAIL}
Are you certain that Ruth Stebbins worked with John at Biff's in Troy? I do not remember a Biff's in Troy, but then again I was just a kid when I lived there. I do remember there was a Landmark that was open 24 hours.
I am also reasonably certain that Ruth did work at the American Legion Hall, although I am not certain she was still working there at the time of Mark's dissapearance. I have also been told that she may have worked two jobs, which would make sense with her being a single mother.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
{THIS IS REPOSTED FROM SITE READERS E-MAIL}I would be curious to know which rest. it was, I would also be curious to know if Biff's was the one at 7 and Evergreen in Detroit.
I think that Mark Stebbins had to have known his killer. I would be highly surprised if it was a Ferndale cop and it would not have been his Priest.
If John was with Ruth at the ALH, and did in fact hear Mark ask his Mom for money to go to the hobby shop, than it could be assumed that gave John his opening. John could have simply offered to take him. The wide spread panick did not start until after Mark dissapeared and Ferndale was a safe family community, Mark would not have had a reason to doubt him.
I have noticed John stalked some of his victims, did he ever mention stalking Mark....
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
{REPOSTED FROM SITE READERS E-MAIL}Sorry, the other thread won't let me post.
The Hobby shop sat on the corner of Woodward. I am not sure if it was at the end of his street, but if not it was only a block or two away.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
{REPOSTED FROM SITE READERS E-MAIL}No, I did not know Mark but I know a few people who lived on Saratoga and did know him. Feel free to email or pm with any questions and I will try to get an answer for you.
Unfortunatly, Mark was a few years older than my friends and I hear he was quiet and kept to himself.
As to the hobby shop, it was on the corner of his street and it was a true old fashioned hobby shop. There was quite a train room that was off limits to kids by themselves, coins, stamps, sports cars, etc...
Someone on the street collected stamps but there were alot of kids on that street so no way to know if it was Mark.
Mark could have left the American Legion and taken Troy, which was one block south of 9 mile rd and crossed Woodward there, or he could have taken 9 mile.
On a side note, did John ever mention attending the Police Fraternal events? My Mother once reported her "date" to the police after alot of talk that didn't add up or make sense.
