Interview -Don Studt and Johns Mother at Birmingham Police Dept.~~~

is the mother of John states that she received a call from a woman named Helen at one time, and Helen said that she was in love with John and asked a variety of personal questions about the family, but didn't answer many of them. Particularly after Helen made it clear that she didn't want me to tell John that they had spoken. said that she really does not know how to contact John . She has not been in touch with him for a number of years.
She said that she has lived at the for about 10 years. Prior to that she lived on with her mother. Just prior to that she lived on . She has formerly worked at the Birmingham schools, wither as an aid, a lunch aid or a cafeteria person. She worked at the Vally Woods School for a period of time. She currently is a resident baby sitter who takes care of a family whose father is named . He is somehow related to the owner of Thunderbird Lanes.
She said that while she was living at , she lived with her husband and family. the house next door was owned by them and was rented over a period of a 2 or 3 years. She said there were 3 sets of people that lived there. She described the first group of renters as nice people. The second group of renters were Spanish and were having some problems. The third group were prostitutes. She said it was hard to find renters, but they seemed to fill up

and the house was not vacant for very long. The house was sold by her husband sometime around the time she was divorced. She said she believed that happened in about 1977. About 9 months before that or so, the husband moved out.
She said that they never owned the house on Squirrel Road or any property up there. She is not aware that the husband owned any property up there. She said the family relationship was characterized as terrible. Her husband, every time anyone would make a comment, she would tell him to shut up, and they were just trying to start an argument. was very upset when his father moved out of the house. However, he did not take on the traditional male head of the household roles. She said he was always working. He worked in restaurants. He had a very hard time growing up. He had no friends that she knew of during high school or after high school. She kept reiterating that he was always working, primarily a cook at various restaurants.
She said that he did very poorly in school, although he graduated. He got beat up when he was at Brother Rice by some unknown boys and did not want to go back to school, but his father made him go to school. She recalls an incident with a friend named where they were required to go back to the school on Saturdays to clean toilets as a disciplinary measure. only hobbies were painting. She said he was a natural born artist. He was very talented. She recalls an incident when he was young where (she believes it was at Brother Rice) $50.00 worth of his oil paints were stolen. She said that this was one of the few times that she
